T.I. Industries is one of the largest manufacturers of pre-finished mouldings worldwide, with over 500,000 square feet of manufacturing space in four facilities. We are the only totally vertically integrated moulding manufacturer in North America, with a capacity of over 2,500,000 lineal feet of moulding produced weekly.
During the customer packaging process, moulding strips are moved along on 4 assembly lines where they are sized, cut, weighed, imperfections marked and finally packaged for the customer. They were tracking this information on paper forms and then entering it into a single computer terminal after the customer order was fulfilled.
We were asked to analyse the existing system and recommended and implemented the following changes:
Added computers to the assembly lines
- We added a PC to each end of assembly lines that are attached to assorted peripherals along the assembly line.
Created bespoke software that controls the peripherals
- We redesigned the existing database, which improved tracking capabilities and processing speed.
- We created software that ran on the assembly line computer and controlled and track various mechanical parts of the assembly line (including gates, lights and scales) and the packaging process
- The software also logged order-processing details for real-time reviews by supervisors from PC in the main office.
